How to Reset a Skoda Key Just got a message from my infotainment system say that the battery in the key is low and requires replacement. It's not the first time, and the last time I visited an auto dealer, they replaced it for free in 2 minutes, and they said it would be working again. Switch ignition ON and mechanically lock the car. Press the unlock button five times in intervals of 1 second on the remote control. A short horn will sound. Method of EEPROM It can take some time for a professional car locksmith to reprogram your key in the event that it ceases to function. In most instances the EEPROM is scanned to determine the unique code of the car. This process is risky and there's a chance of corrupting the information in the module. This is why it's better to trust an experienced locksmith. An EEPROM (non-volatile) memory is used in a wide range of electronic devices including car keys. It stores information that includes the unique authentication codes as well as encryption keys that your vehicle recognizes when you use it to unlock or start the car. These codes are crucial because they inform your car that you are the owner of the key and have permission to drive. If your EEPROM is damaged, the keys will stop working. The issue is usually caused by pressing the wrong key, or hitting the wrong buttons. You may try to reset it using a specific tool, but this method is not 100% guaranteed to work. It is recommended to hire a professional with extensive experience programming automotive keys. To reset your EEPROM, you must remove the Kessy Module from the vehicle. This is the module just above the accelerator pedal on the left side of the car. Remove the clip made of plastic that is holding it in place using the screwdriver. Then, unplug the electrical connectors. Pull it out. Then, you can read the EEPROM data using the SOIC8 clip or micro pincers connected to the programmer. Once you have all the data you are able to save the file and then write it back to the EEPROM. To read the EEPROM data, use a program like PonyProg and click Read Device. The EEPROM dump will appear as a hex array of characters. There are three values in hex including the KEY_CODE key_count, and the V_ARG_ENABLED. To “virginize”, the chip, change all other hex values from 00. After this you can flash the chip to restore its functionality. Ignition Method This method involves activating the car's system with an additional key. It might not work for all cars however it is able to reset the key fob if it isn't working or the battery has gone out. It will work if you have pressed the buttons hard (people often try to push the unlock button repeatedly). This method requires you to turn the ignition on and keep it turned on. Then make sure that the driver's door is locked of the car using another key. It could be that the battery terminals are loose (look for this, they might seem a bit loose the touch and may be soldered in place) – carefully soldering them back in place will restore your key fob to full working order. If you're not comfortable with this sort repair, you should consult a professional auto elec technician. Switch ignition OFF, and lock the vehicle from the inside using the second key that's not matched (this will reset memory position 1). Enter channel “01”. (Can be channel “21” on certain Audi models.) Insert the new key fob into the driver's door and press its unlock button twice within 5 minutes (often enough to reach the next available memory position). Repeat this coding process for up to 4 additional remotes – make sure to switch off the ignition before programming each remote. You should hear a sound every time you successfully program the remote.
